New plant to expand customer base and PROCAP’s offerings in the region

Wiltz, March 4, 2013 - PROCAP, a major European player in the plastic caps and closures industry, has established brand new advanced manufacturing facilities in Wicklow, Ireland. The plant allows the company to better serve existing local customers and to expand not only its product portfolio, but also its customer base in the region - Ireland and the UK in particular - thereby supporting the company’s overall strategic intentions.

The facilities currently serves customers in the pharmaceutical industry, specifically closures and scoops for the infant milk market. PROCAP holds a strong position in this segment that the new plant will cement and grow. Having the required processes in place and having been especially equipped to meet the high standards for hygiene that this particular application requires to ensure no contamination of products, the plant meets BRC/IOP Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 4). Highly automated, the extremely modern equipment allows for much more efficient production.

The range of products supplied by the Wicklow site will increase to include PROCAP’s complete portfolio, specifically its innovative solutions for the beverage industry, to enable the company to initiate and further develop relationships in Ireland and the UK, and firmly establish its place as a local supplier.

The new facilities were officially opened in December 2012 and went into full production in January 2013. The plant currently serves infant milk manufacturers in Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Western Europe. Its important BRC/IOP certification has already attracted new customers in the infant milk segment in Singapore and Ecuador, for which it is now an approved supplier.

Today, the site works at 60 per cent capacity, using 7,800 sqms of floor space that houses 23 injection mould machines in two production halls. The facility has been designed to be future ready and PROCAP plans to expand the number of machines to 40 to meet the needs of a greater number of projects. In the future, PROCAP will also further expand the plant’s production facilities and warehouse in terms of floor space, which the location allows for.

The new facilities replace the former plant that PROCAP had leased as part of its acquisition of MCF Plastics in 2009. PROCAP selected a Greenfield site just 8 kms from the old plant to make it easy for its 32 long-term employees to get to and from work. It also made the transfer of machines and equipment more efficient.

“The Wicklow facilities constitutes a significant investment for PROCAP and represents the substantial commitment we have to continue to serve customers in Ireland and the UK, and to expanding our business for the future. Ireland is an important location due to the solid links with the UK and the continent. The plant also underscores our responsibility for our employees and their future,” says Benoît Henckes, Chief Executive Officer, PROCAP.
